An alternative to Squarespace
Squarespace makes tasteful sites, nothing wrong with that. The friction starts when you want something the template doesn't offer, or when you notice your site looks like ten others.

What Squarespace does well
No platform is bad. Squarespace has delivered a lot for business owners with a Squarespace site who want more customisation, and that deserves to be said.
- Templates with a good sense of typography and white space
- Everything under one roof: hosting, domain, email integration
- Pleasant management for blogs and portfolios
- Little maintenance, since there's nothing to update
The template sets the limits
As long as you stay within the lines, it's smooth. Want your own calculation, a filter, or a flow that isn't built in? Then the fiddling with code injection begins.
Recognisable, and not in a good way
Clients can sense when a site comes from a template. For a brand that wants to stand out, that works against you.
An ongoing cost without ownership
Stop paying, and the site goes offline. You're renting your presence, not owning it.
SEO only goes so far
The basics are fine, but you can only tweak structure, schema and load behaviour to a limited degree.
A site that is yours
Built from scratch, in code, with no platform in between. That's not ideology, it's simply cheaper in the long run and faster to use.
You own it
Code, domain and hosting are in your name. Want to move to another provider tomorrow? You just take everything with you.
Copy that's actually yours
No filled-in template sentences. I write the copy based on how you'd explain it to a client, using the words people actually search for.
Fast, even on a mediocre connection
No layer upon layer of scripts. What's there is there because it's needed. You'll notice it in load time and in your Core Web Vitals.
No subscription that keeps running
Hosting here costs five euros a month. Maintenance is optional. You pay for the build once, not every year again.
What it costs to switch
Coming from Squarespace? Then 33% comes off the indicative price. Reason: your existing structure, copy and imagery give me a flying start.

01
Thirty-minute intake
We look at your current site, what works and what you're missing. Then you get a fixed price with a timeline.
-
02
Inventory of your pages
Every existing page, article and product link goes on a list. That way nothing gets lost in the switch.
-
03
Building and writing
Design, structure and copy. You see working pages along the way, not static mockups.
-

Every old address points to the right new address. Metadata, sitemap and structure are checked before we go live.

05
Go-live and handover
We switch over at a quiet moment. You get access to everything, plus a short walkthrough of how to manage it.
Switching from Squarespace
Can my current design stay the same?
If you're happy with the look, we keep it as a starting point and make it more your own. Usually the intake reveals you want something sharper anyway.
What about my blog articles?
We bring those along, with the same URLs so your existing links and rankings keep working.
Can I still edit content myself afterwards?
Yes. The website package includes a CMS or admin panel where you manage your own text, photos and pages.
I also sell through Squarespace Commerce?
Then we look at the webshop package, with Mollie or Stripe as payment provider and no revenue-based fee on top.
More general questions are in the FAQ.
Coming from something else?
The same story applies to most platforms. Pick what you use now.
