An alternative to Shopify
Shopify is a strong platform. The bill just keeps growing alongside it: subscription, transaction fees and a handful of apps each asking for something monthly. At a certain volume, ownership pays off.

per month
$348 — $3.588
every year again, without ownership
€5

Indicative prices from Shopify (webshop platform with a subscription and transaction fees), checked on 31 August 2026. Basic to Advanced, plus card fees per transaction and the apps you install. Amounts in dollars, as published by Shopify. Always check current rates at shopify.com/pricing.
What Shopify does well
No platform is bad. Shopify has delivered a lot for webshops tired of the fixed cost and the stack of apps, and that deserves to be said.
- Reliable and scalable, even during peaks
- A huge app store for almost any need
- A checkout proven to convert well
- Lots of people know it, so finding help is easy
Apps pile up
Five apps at ten to thirty a month add up fast. That cost comes back every month, even in months when you sell less.
Transaction fees on top of your payment provider
If you don't use Shopify Payments, a percentage gets added to every order. As revenue grows, that's a real bite.
Your process has to bend
Custom pricing deals, quotes, B2B rules or a link to your accounting often only work with workarounds.
Your data lives in their system
You can export it, but the logic you built up in apps and settings doesn't come with it.
A site that is yours
Built from scratch, in code, with no platform in between. That's not ideology, it's simply cheaper in the long run and faster to use.
You own it
Code, data and customer base are yours. No provider changing its price or terms tomorrow.
Pay via Mollie or Stripe
You pay your payment provider's cost, and nothing extra per order.
Custom features instead of apps
Whatever you need, I build it in. No subscription per feature, no apps getting in each other's way.
Integration with what you already use
Accounting, inventory or CRM: if there's an API, we connect it.

Switching from Shopify
Can I transfer my products?
Yes. Products, variants, prices and images come across via an export. Customers and order history too, if you want to keep them.
What about my Shopify apps?
During intake we list which apps you actually use. Usually that's three or four, and I just build those features in directly.
Will the checkout still work as well?
The checkout is built short and distraction-free, with Mollie or Stripe. Payment methods like Bancontact, card and bank transfer are included.
From what volume does this pay off?
Add up your Shopify subscription, apps and transaction fees on a yearly basis. Above two thousand euros a year, an owned shop usually pays for itself within two years.
More general questions are in the FAQ.
Coming from something else?
